Don Carter State Park
On the 38,000-acre of Lake Lanier, Don Carter is the only state park on the lake in Gainesville, GA. The park, which is located on the north end of the reservoir, provides excellent water sports. A multi-use route encourages hikers and cyclists to discover the woods, while boat ramps allow fast access to the lake and river. A big sand swimming beach with a bath house is available to guests.
This park also has a number of options for overnight stays. Cabins with two bedrooms are set on forested hillsides near the lake. Another basic camping area is only for tents and hammocks, while one campground is specifically for RVs. Overnight guests have access to the campground and cottage loop, which is gated.
Don Carter, a real estate executive who sat on the Georgia Department of Natural Resources board for 29 years and helped establish Lake Lanier's first state park, is honored with the park's name.
The RV camping area can comfortably accommodate the largest RVs. This is a wonderful site to park your RV any month of the year because it has power (30 amp) and water. Because the campground is on a hill, DTV TV will be available from practically every Atlanta TV station for those using DTV TV equipment. The park does not provide this service.
Tent campers get access to special amenities such as fish cleaning stations (which aren't many), restrooms with showers, and hiking access to the remainder of the park.
Throughout the park, there are numerous unique play zones. They will undoubtedly thrill children. While their children are having a great time, parents can relax on the cozy benches.
The majority of the areas are wheelchair accessible. Everyone, even wheelchairs, has easy access to a fishing pier in Lake Sydney Lanier. The park's paved surfaces allow everyone to appreciate everything it has to offer.
In the near future, as part of one of three stages that will open over the next few months, an equestrian facility for horse lovers is planned. This facility has long been desired in this Georgia region, and it will be warmly appreciated.
